Big Red From The Med
For centuries, the Mediterranean has served as the world's red wine engine, churning out deep, dark, rich red favorites. Even the Phoenicians loved it. Regardless of the country--Spain, France, Italy, others--or the local characterful grape names, the Big Red style consistently remains the world's favorite. Is it a coincidence that the wines' smokey, spicy, quaffable dark berry character perfectly matches the cuisines of Catalonia, Provence, Sicily or Morocco? A couple thousand years of refinement won't steer you wrong... join us along with an undoubtedly friendly crowd and experience it yourself!
The Mediterranean sun crept ever-so-slightly into Zürich last Friday night, not least from the 20 enthusiastic attendees that enjoyed the robust lineup:
- The Chicken Provençal with roasted tomatoes, shallots & black olives won favorite food pairing with the full-on southern French Château St.-Roch 'Kerbuccio', a classic Syrah blend with tons of fruit and earth.
- If you don't like Bacon-Wrapped Dates with Parmesan, you might double-check your taste buds. The rich-and-sweet profile fit nicely with the night's favorite wine from southern Italy's Negroamaro grape.
